FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)


1. Who can apply for the LAYCS Scholarship?

A: The Latin American Youth Climate Scholarship (LAYCS) supports the meaningful and inclusive participation of BIPoC (Black, Indigenous, or People of Color) Latin American youth in global climate spaces. We seek candidates aged 18–30 (flexible up to 35) with experience in youth and climate movements. Fluency in English is not required, but Spanish or Portuguese is necessary. We ensure gender balance, prioritizing women and LGBTIQ+ participants, and will select only BIPoC candidates. Geographic diversity will be prioritized, focusing on those most impacted by climate change.


2. Is it necessary to have previous experience in climate/sustainability projects?

A: Preference is given to local and community engagement over international experience, and candidates must share their work, experiences, and motivation in climate action. 


3. What is the selection process like, will everyone receive notification of whether they were selected or not?

A: All applicants will receive an email notification regarding their selection status, whether they are selected or not.


4. Is it mandatory to participate in all the conferences?

A: Yes, it is mandatory to complete the entire program, including the virtual preparation sessions and the conferences, with active and dynamic participation.


5. What if I have technical problems completing my application?

A: If you encounter technical issues while completing your application, please contact our support team as soon as possible for assistance.


6. How will I know if I was selected?

A: If you are preselected, you will receive an email notification inviting you to an interview. After the interview process, final selections will be communicated via email


7. What can I do to highlight my application?

A: We share our advice in the video, which includes tips on how to create a strong application. Be sure to watch it for guidance!


8. Do I have to have an award-winning curriculum vitae?

A: A curriculum vitae is not required, but a strong biography highlighting your local work and deep connection with your identity and community is essential.


9. Conference dates

A: SB60 (June 16 to 26) in Bonn, Germany.
COP30 (November 10 to 21) in Belém, Brazil.
Possibly participate in other climate events at regional and global level, which are related to the negotiation topics that the group will follow in 2025.


10. Is it mandatory to comply with the number of characters in the application?

A: No, it is not mandatory to strictly comply with the number of characters in the application. However, we encourage clear and concise responses.
